Reading about someone who is older and about to head into university is very interesting with different concepts that I haven't experienced yet. After reading a lot of books about people my age, this was a bit more stimulating, even if I'm not yet able to relate to parts of school life. I wish that we got more detail and depth into how some of the other characters dealt and felt about Tyler's suicide. Although towards the end of the book we heard more about the other characters, it would have been interesting to have the story told from a different point of view. Perhaps listening from Tyler's perspective of his thoughts. The author does a great job expressing not only the overwhelming grief but also sets the mood when Lex experiences different emotions following her brother's death. Many parts during the read you can really start to understand the dread that she is facing. This novel really stung when we hear how hopeless the Mum feels afterwards. There is a really sense of struggle throughout the entire read. The Last Time We Say Goodbye, is a really heartfelt novel, not filled with action or the typical romance but explores recovery and handling emotions. I thoroughly enjoyed this book all the way through and would definitely recommend it to other girls my age or older. |
